It does get better- it takes only a week or so to feel comfortable without your M-16 on your back when your walking arounda shopping mall, things like that go away. The things that I still have with me: I sit in corners at restaurants, so I can be aware of my situation, I still don't like crowds, and I still occasionally react violently to people sneaking up on me. Shortly after my first tour in Bosnia, I almost killed a kid in a mosh pit at a punk club in Germany, because he put his arm over my shoulder from behind me (used a little hand-to-hand on him (btw- when I started taking Jujitsu a few years ago, I recognized that some of the moves I was taught in basic were Jujitsu moves)). A friend of mine who went to Iraq in '93 said that he feels pretty much from there as he did after Bosnia, so you should expect to be pretty normal as well.
